A Florida man has been accused of murdering his estranged wife and then attempting to cover up her disappearance by claiming she was very ill with Covid-19.

David Anthony from Jupiter, Florida was arrested on 2nd degree murder and kidnapping charges after being found by police in New Mexico.

His arrest came after a friend of his wife reported to the police that she had received strange text messages from Gretchen, Anthony’s wife.

The messages claimed that Mrs Anthony had an acute case of Covid-19 and was being held by the Centre for Disease Control.

Police said that she had not been at any medical centre or made any medical insurance claims.

After this came to light, police began to investigate Mr Anthony.  Mrs Anthony had filed for divorce at the end of February.

Interviewing neighbours, police were told of a “blood-curdling scream” and a woman saying “No, no, it hurts,” in a location near Mrs Anthony’s garage or patio area.

During a search of the house police found a large stain that appeared to be blood.

Mr Anthony was arrested on 31 March. He is soon to be extradited to Florida.

Mrs Anthony’s body has not been found.
