Punk icon and former Sex Pistols lead singer, John Lydon – better known by his stage name Johnny Rotten – has pledged to vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming US elections.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Lydon became a US citizen in 2013. He lives in Los Angeles.

Although he has previously endorsed Democratic candidates for the presidential office, he is giving his support to Trump on account of the latter’s handling of the economy.

Explaining this, he said that his decision is influenced by the choice of Joe Biden as the challenger to Trump: ‘I’d be daft as a brush not to. He’s the only sensible choice now that Biden is up – he’s incapable of being the man at the helm.’

The Observer newspaper said that his sympathies for Trump can be traced to accusations that the latter is a racist, a charge that has also been levelled against Lydon, and which he has denied.  ‘I’ve been accused of the very same thing, so I’m offended for anybody who’s called that,’ he said.
