IRR CEO Dr Frans Cronje is to step down at the end of 2021 after eighteen years at the institute, eight as CEO.

A selection committee has been established to identify his successor.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IRR, Mr Roger Crawford, thanked Dr Cronje for his long-standing and exemplary service. He added that Dr Cronje had flagged the possibility of stepping down in 2019 but later agreed to stay on to see the IRR through the Covid-19 pandemic.  

Dr Cronje, who was educated at St John’s College and Wits University and holds a PhD in scenario planning from North-West University, has authored three books on the future of South Africa and the world, and has advised several hundred corporations and government agencies.
