President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation last night announcing that the country is returning to Level 1 of the lockdown with immediate effect.

He noted that new infections, hospital admissions and death rates have fallen considerably and continue to decline steadily.

The president announced the regulations under Level 1 which included adjusted curfew time being adjusted to 4 am, gatherings being limited to a number of 100 people indoors and 250 outdoors and alcohol sales going back to normal alcohol licence provisions.

However, night vigils and other gatherings before or after funerals are still not permitted. Nightclubs will remain shut under new regulations.

The president urged South Africans to be vigilant and to continue following rules such as wearing masks, regardless of these adjustments.

He urged the country to not let its guard down.
