IRR writer and analyst Gabriel Crouse reports from Mkhondo (Piet Retief) on the bail appearance of four farmers charged with the murders of Amos and Zenzele Coka on a farm in the district on 9 April.
After a protester threw rocks over the barbed-wire cordon at the police and journalists, police fired one round of tear gas and advanced, forming a human blockade. A white police officer was singled out by a demonstrator who shouted: ‘V.k off, jou white racist.’ The police line held as it retreated to the barbed wire surrounding the court.
