One of the girls abducted by the Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram from the town of Chibok in April 2014 has been freed from captivity and returned to her family.

This is according to the governor of the state of Borno, Babagana Zulum.

She had surrendered to security forces along with a man to whom she had been married during her captivity. Officials had subsequently traced her parents.

The governor said that she would now undergo a rehabilitation programme.

He added that this incident raised hopes that others of the kidnapped group might yet be found. Some 270 girls were seized in the Boko Haram operation. Some 82 were freed in 2017, while others had escaped or been rescued. Around 113 are believed to be with the group.
