In an editorial in the hardline Iranian newspaper, Khorasan, the editors described a new Iranian missile as “capable of dealing maximum blows on the Zionist regime in any potential confrontation”.

The new missile is the latest product of Iran’s growing missile programme and is called the “Kheybar-Shekan,” a name which translates as the “smasher of Kheybar”, a reference to a historical battle in early Islamic history against a tribe of Jews.

In an unveiling ceremony the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s missile chief said that the new weapon had a range of 1,450 km, which places all of Israel easily in range if fired from Iran’s western border.

The missile was unveiled on the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran and was met with much praise by the more radical factions of the Iranian regime.

The missile unveiling comes as the U.S. and European countries attempt to get Iran to rejoin a deal which will halt its development of nuclear weapons.
