Police in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo lifted a curfew yesterday after protests in which scores of people were injured, and arrested.

Hundreds of Sri Lankan protesters had gathered near the Presidential palace to protest the country’s economic crisis.

Sri Lanka is currently suffering from 13-hour-a-day blackouts after the government ran out of foreign exchange to pay for fuel imports, which are needed to keep the lights on.

In a press briefing, the government said that while protesters had the right to protest, they did not have the right to damage property.
