Over 100 vultures and a hyena have been found dead in the Kruger National Park. It is believed that they had fed on the carcass of a buffalo which had been poisoned.
Another 20 vultures were found alive but in a bad state and were taken for treatment.
Police are investigating, according to reports.
Although vulture populations have increased over recent years they are still classified as a ‘vulnerable’ species, according to global conservation bodies.
Vultures often die from eating poisoned carcasses and are also often poisoned deliberately, as their body parts can be used in traditional medicine.
