Talks are being held which could see a combined Wallabies and All Blacks rugby team play the British and Irish Lions in 2025.

The Lions, a combined team made up of the best players from England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, are due to tour Australia in 2025. They will play three Tests against the Wallabies. A fourth match against an ‘Anzac’ XV at the 100 000-seated Melbourne Cricket Ground is being punted by Rugby Australia.

Said Rugby Australia’s chief executive, Hamish McLennan: ‘I’m in no doubt it would be a belter and we’d sell the MCG out with 100 000 fans. The best of the Wallabies and the All Blacks against the Lions would create enormous global coverage.’

Rugby relations between Australia and New Zealand have been strained in recent years, with tensions emerging over the future of Super Rugby.
