Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, is visiting four Africa countries this week as he tries to boost relations, amid growing anti-French sentiment on the continent. The visit is also seen as an attempt to counter the growing influence of the Chinese and Russian governments in Africa.

Macron’s visit will begin in Gabon followed by Angola, and then the Democratic Republic of Congo. The trip will conclude in Brazzaville, in the DRC’s neighbour, the Republic of Congo.

French troops have left Burkina Faso and Mali in recent times as tensions continue between Paris and many of its former African colonies.
