Scientists have for the first time successfully created a baby mouse using only male mouse stem cells and turning them into female cells.

Through a complex process, the team took cells from the tails of male mice and transformed them into stem cells. These cells were then used to create working egg cells. These were fertilized and implanted into a female mouse. However, only 1% of the 630 they created grew into live mouse pups.

As far as the team could tell, the two father mice grew up normally and were able to reproduce themselves.

The experiment may be an important breakthrough in developing a similar ability in humans at some time in the future.
