Boosting the ranks of South Africans willing to cast their votes to help bring change to the country is the key objective of the IRR’s #PledgeToVote initiative – and the core message of its campaign video, launched yesterday.
While more than 42 million South Africans are eligible to vote, just over 26 million are registered and in the latest polls – the 2021 Local Government Election – just over 12 million people actually voted.
The IRR’s #PledgeToVote seeks to overcome voter apathy and remind South Africans of their agency in changing their lives for the better. The key message of the campaign video is that ‘Just complaining doesn’t help’.
The #PledgeToVote website notes: ‘By rallying South Africans to encourage one another to register and vote, we believe voter apathy can be reversed and together we can keep South Africa’s democracy strong and healthy.’
