Russell Brand, the British comedian and actor, has been accused of rape and sexual harassment.
A number of women have come forward, alleging that the incidents happened between 2006 and 2013.
Brand was one of the most well-known people in Britain at one time, and also appeared in a number of Hollywood comedies, notably Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He has also been a voice actor in animated movies, including the ‘Minions’ franchise. In recent years Brand has rebranded himself as a wellness guru. Some of his critics say that he has also become a conspiracy theorist.
Accusations against Brand are not new, with the Australian pop singer, Danni Minogue, saying as far back as 2006 that Brand had sexually harassed her.
Over the weekend, the London Sunday Times published an investigation into Brand’s behaviour, with five women coming forward to accuse him of sexual assault. One of the women claimed that she had been abused by Brand when she was 16. Brand had been in his early 30s at the time of the alleged abuse.
Brand has denied the allegations, saying that he is the victim of a co-ordinated attack.
