A Nigerian airline has apologised to passengers after it landed them in a different city from the one they had been planning on travelling to.

A plane from United Nigeria Airlines was supposed to travel from Lagos, the largest city, to the capital, Abuja. However, it landed in the city of Asaba.

On landing, passengers were told they had landed in Abuja. Passengers claimed that they were told that the pilot had been given the wrong flight plan from Lagos.

However, the airline said that the plane had been intentionally diverted to Asaba because of bad weather.

In a statement the airline said: ‘We sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding on our [flight]. We are currently taking steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.’

It said that the plane eventually arrived safely in Abuja.
