Thami Ntuli, the chair of the IFP in KwaZulu-Natal, will be the party’s premier candidate in the province, the party has said.

Ntuli is currently the mayor of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality and also the chair of the South African Local Government Association (Salga).

Velenkosini Hlabisa, the IFP’s leader, said of Ntuli: ‘The IFP’s provincial chair has agreed to stand for election as premier of KwaZulu-Natal. He stands with the full support of the IFP and millions of citizens of KwaZulu-Natal. We are confident in his capacity and his leadership, knowing he will represent the IFP values in government.’

Polls show that no party is likely to win a majority in KwaZulu-Natal in this year’s election, with an anti-ANC front made up of the DA and IFP having a good chance of forming a coalition to govern.
