Robert F Kennedy Junior, who is running as an independent in this year’s American Presidential election, has chosen his running mate.
His campaign’s candidate for vice president is Nicole Shanahan. She is a lawyer and was married to Sergey Brin, one of the founders of Google, from 2018 until 2023.
Kennedy is a member of one of the United States’s great political dynasties, his father having been a candidate for President, the US Attorney General, and a senator. His uncle, John F Kennedy, was President, and another uncle, Ted Kennedy, was a veteran senator who unsuccessfully stood for President.
Kennedy is highly unlikely to win the presidential race, but some polls have him in double digits and he could act as a spoiler. Kennedy’s political positions are difficult to define. He has taken ideas from both the left and the right.
Shanahan has been a long-time donor to the Democratic Party, so this could affect Kennedy’s candidacy and have an influence on prospective voters.
