Annual inflation was 5.1% in June, the lowest level recorded this year.

This reflected a slight decrease from May, when inflation had been 5.2%.

On a month-to-month basis inflation was 0.1% in June, also lower than May’s monthly inflation, which had been 0.2%.

Economists said that the lower inflation rate was because of a slightly stronger rand and a decline in fuel prices.

The lower rate of inflation also means that a cut in interest rates is more likely in the second half of the year.
