Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has said that he will only name a new government after the Olympic Games, currently being held in Paris.
Macron was quoted as saying: “Until mid-August, we’re in no position to change things, because it would create disorder.”
In elections held earlier this month a left-wing coalition won the most seats in the national legislature but not enough to secure a majority. This coalition – the New Popular Front (NPF) – had proposed a relatively unknown civil servant, Lucie Castets, as prime minister.
Macron has said that he would seek to appoint a prime minister with the broadest backing in the French parliament.
