Taiwan was struck on Friday by a 6.3 level earthquake. The quakes was reportedly centred some 34km offshore from the city of Hualien. It followed quake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale on Thursday.

The quake shook buildings in the capital Taipei. As a precautionary measure, subway trains have been operating at slower speeds than usual.

No one is reported to have been killed in these events.

Taiwan is situated in a region when tectonic plates push into one another, making earthquakes a regular event.

In April, Taiwan was hit by the most violent earthquake in 25 years, which left 9 people dead and injured around 900.
