Kais Saied, the President of Tunisia, has been re-elected in a landslide, winning more than 90% of the vote according to official figures.
Only two opposition candidates were allowed to stand against Saied, with the country’s electoral commission barring other candidates from running. The election was held over the weekend.
Turnout was low, with less than a third of registered voters turning up at the polls. A number of political parties urged their supporters to boycott the election because they believed it would not be free and fair.
Saied came to power in 2019 but since then has concentrated power in his own hands and governed in an increasingly autocratic fashion.
