Mbuso Mandela has been released due to sufficient evidence after being arrested last week after a hijacking.
Mandela, a grandson of Nelson Mandela, was arrested with four other people last week after a hijacked vehicle was found at the former president’s home in Houghton in Johannesburg. However, he was released on Friday and didn’t appear in court with the other suspects. There was reportedly not enough evidence linking him to the crime.
However, a prosecutor said that he still remained a person of interest pending further investigation.
The vehicle, which belonged to an Uber driver, had been hijacked on Louis Botha Avenue, not far from Mandela’s Houghton home. The Uber driver was also robbed of cash and had some money taken out of his bank account.
