ANC support has plummeted to a low of 32%. This is according to a new poll by the Social Research Foundation (SRF).

The poll, conducted telephonically, had just over 1,000 respondents and a margin error of 3%, and assumes a voter turnout of 58%.

The DA was at 25%, MK at 12%, EFF at 6%, and the IFP at 3%. However, a large number of voters – 11% – were undecided.

However, ANC leader Cyril Ramaphosa was an important component in the ANC’s popularity. If he left, only 21% said they would vote for the ANC, with the DA at 28%, with MK improving to 15%, and the EFF to 9%.

Frans Cronje, SRF chairman and former IRR CEO, was quoted by News24 as saying: “Populist policies are bleeding the ANC dry.” He continued: “We still believe the ANC will attract about 40% of support if it launches a strong election campaign, but it is clear that they can no longer take these voters’ support for granted.”

Cronje also said the DA’s support among black voters had gone up since the party had joined the GNU.
