Sudan is to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the UAE’s support of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s ongoing civil war.
The Sudanese government claims that the RSF has committed genocide against the Masalit people in Darfur, saying that UAE support for the RSF makes the Arab country complicit in genocide.
The UAE has dismissed Khartoum’s claims, saying they are a publicity stunt.
According to the BBC, Sudan’s submission to the ICJ says: “The United Arab Emirates fuels the rebellion and supports the militia that has committed the crime of genocide in West Darfur. The United Arab Emirates must make full reparation for the injury caused (by) its internationally wrongful acts, including paying reimbursement to the victims of the war.”
The war, which has been raging for two years, has seen both sides accused of atrocities. The RSF have been accused of committing genocide and atrocities against Sudanese non-Arabs.
