South Africa’s Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This is his second term in his office, as he has served since 2021.

Motsepe became president of the organisation when it was in crisis, with his predecessor Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar being banned by FIFA for financial misconduct.

Motsepe said the focus of his second term would be on ensuring there was adequate infrastructure in various African countries to host international football matches.

Motsepe owns Mamelodi Sundowns, which is on track to win South Africa’s Premier Soccer League. This would be its eighth consecutive win.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is his brother-in-law.
