A pro-Chinese influencer living in Taiwan has been told to leave the island in the next few days or be deported.
This comes after she posted videos saying that China should take over Taiwan by force.
The woman, known as Yaya on social media, is reportedly originally Chinese, but was married to a Taiwanese man, and has been living on the island on a ‘dependant’ visa for the past five years. Taiwanese authorities said she had to leave the island in the next few days or face being physically deported.
She is known for posting videos on social media where she calls Taiwan “an inseparable part of China”. She also said that Taiwan should be reintegrated with China, even if it’s against the wishes of the Taiwanese people.
According to the BBC, it is very rare for Chinese citizens married to Taiwanese to be deported by authorities. About 360,000 Chinese people are married to Taiwanese people and are living on the island.
The decision to expel the woman comes as tensions between Taipei and Beijing continue to grow, with growing concerns over Chinese “infiltration and influence” in Taiwan.
