Carl Niehaus, the controversial South African politician, has been tipped to be the next South African ambassador to Washington DC.
Payola Oldsfir, a spokesperson for the Department of International Relations and Co-Operation (Dirco), said that Niehaus had much experience in the diplomatic field, and had formerly been South Africa’s ambassador to the Netherlands.
Said Oldsfir: “We believe Niehaus’s appointment will placate important constituencies in South Africa, the radical left and Afrikaners. Niehaus’s membership of the EFF means his appointment will be welcomed by the EFF and other radicals, while Afrikaners will be happy to see one of their own in Washington DC.”
Oldsfir said she was confident that Niehaus would establish a rapport with Donald Trump, saying that they were both buffoonish old men, and would thus have something in common.
