The Chinese military has held live-fire drills in the Taiwan Strait, which separates mainland China from Taiwan.
Taiwan, which is de facto independent, is considered by China as an integral part of its territory.
The live-fire exercise simulated strikes on ports and energy facilities.
The Taiwanese government said it “strongly condemns” the exercises.
It comes as tensions between the two countries rise, with Beijing calling Taiwanese President, Lai Ching-te, a “parasite” in recent times.
Meanwhile Lai has labelled China as a “hostile foreign force”.
The Chinese People’s Liberation Army said that the drills aimed to serve as a “serious warning and powerful containment” to Taiwan.
Meanwhile the US State Department reaffirmed that country’s commitment to Taiwan.
