A print by Andy Warhol of a former Dutch Queen, Beatrix, was accidentally disposed of in a municipality.
The municipality of Maashorst said that the print had likely been thrown out, along with 46 other artworks, during renovation works of the town hall.
The print was estimated to be worth about R300,000.
According to the BBC, an investigation found that the artworks had been stored in a basement during the renovations and had subsequently been disposed of accidentally.
Queen Beatrix was the Dutch monarch from 1980 until 2013. Her Warhol portrait had been part of a series called “Reigning Queens,” done by Warhol in 1985. It featured three other woman members of Royal Families – Queen Elizabeth II of the UK, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Queen Ntombi Twala of eSwatini.
