A Nepalese sherpa, Kami Rita, known as “Everest Man,” has broken his own record for the number of summits to the top of the world’s highest mountain.

On Tuesday he summitted the mountain for the 31st time, as part of an Indian army expedition.

Rita first reached the summit in 1994 and has ascended the peak nearly annually since then.

His father was one of the first sherpas to guide people up the mountain when it was opened to foreigners in the 1950s. Rita’s brother, Lakpa, is also a sherpa, and has summited Everest 17 times.

Rita’s record comes as a British climber, Kenton Cool, this month broke the record for the most summits by a non-sherpa. He climbed Everest for the 19th time earlier this month.
