Namibia is due to host the Proteas in what will be the first-ever international cricket match between the two neighbours.

South Africa will play a one-off T20I match in October at a new stadium, which has been built in Windhoek.

The match will commemorate the opening of the new stadium which will host matches in the 2027 Cricket World Cup, which is due to be jointly hosted by Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

The ground has a capacity of 7,000 and has been under construction since 2021.

In a statement the CEO of Namibia Cricket, Johann Muller, said: “This truly is a memorable occasion. The new ground has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialised. A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world-class facility.”

While Namibia is one of the minnows of world cricket it has claimed some impressive scalps in recent years, boasting T20 wins over Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.
