Heinrich Klaasen, the Proteas’ batter, has announced that he is retiring from all international cricket.
He retired from Test cricket in 2024.
There was speculation that Klaasen was likely to make the decision after being overlooked in the central contracts list of Cricket South Africa (CSA) in April. He will now most likely concentrate on his T20 career, where he is currently one of the format’s most sought-after and destructive batters.
Klaasen played four Tests, 60 one-day internationals (ODIs), and 58 T20Is for South Africa.
Career highlights include scoring 292 for the Pretoria-based Titans in a domestic first-class match and a score of 174 against Australia in an ODI at Centurion in 2023.
In a statement, the 33-year-old Klaasen said: “It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with.”
