The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has banned any reporting on former president, Joseph Kabila.
The country’s government said that any reporting on Kabila’s activities or that of his party is prohibited. The media is also not allowed to interview any members of his party.
The country’s media regulator said that any media organisation which did not follow this instruction could be suspended.
Kabila has been highly critical of the government in recent times.
The immunity which Kabila enjoyed from prosecution as a former president has been lifted by the government. This was reportedly to pave the way to lay charges of treason against Kabila, but he has not been charged with anything yet.
Kabila is accused of supporting the M23 rebel group which is active in the east f the country, and which is allegedly backed by the Rwandan government.
