Tanzania has blocked access to the social media platform, X, claiming it allows the sharing of pornography.
The country’s information minister, Jerry Silaa, said pornographic content was against Tanzania’s “laws, culture, customs, and traditions”.
However, observers say the restriction of X is part of broader repressive measures by the Tanzanian government ahead of elections due to be held later this year.
Access to the internet and social media was similarly restricted ahead of the 2020 elections.
