Images have been taken of the Sun’s south pole for the first time. These will help scientists understand the star’s cycles, where it alternates between having solar storms and then relatively quiet periods.
The images were captured by the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter.

The pictures are the closest and most detailed ever taken of our star.
