A number of sketches drawn by celebrated children’s author Roald Dahl are to be auctioned off.
The sketches were produced by Dahl for his childhood memoir, Boy. The original sketches were discovered in an envelope.
The envelope belonged to Ian Craig, who, as art director at the publishing house, Jonathan Cape, had illustrated Boy using Dahl’s sketches as a foundation. Craig died in 2023.
Quentin Blake, who usually illustrated Dahl’s books, was away at the time, leaving the task to Craig. These were the only sketches Dahl ever produced for a book.
The sketches will go on auction this week in Edinburgh.
