A new poll released by the Social Research Foundation (SRF) shows support for the ANC has recovered to where it was after last year’s general election.

The poll, conducted this month among just over 1,000 respondents and with a margin of error of 4%, puts the ANC at 40%, which represents a strong recovery from the 32% the party registered in the last poll conducted by the SRF, in February.

In the latest poll, the DA gets 26%, up slightly from the 25% it recorded in February.

MK gets 18%, a big increase compared to the 12% recorded in February.

The increase by MK was most likely at the expense of the EFF which had the support of only 3% of respondents. This was lower than the IFP, which had the support of 5%.

The SRF said that since the debate around VAT, the ANC’s support levels had stabilised somewhat. It said: “Party support levels within the GNU have essentially returned to where they were prior to the VAT debate. Outside of the GNU, MK has seen sharp growth on the back of a sharp decline in EFF support.”
