Jesse Kriel will skipper the Springboks today against the Barbarians, after their usual captain, Siya Kolisi, pulled out due to a neck injury.

Today’s match, to be played in Cape Town, will see the 79-Test veteran, Kriel, captain the Boks for the first time.

SA Rugby said that the injury was a “niggle”.

This will be the ninth time that South Africa plays the iconic Barbarians, but the first time that this clash will happen on South African soil.

While the match will not see players awarded an official cap for the match because of the composite nature of the Baa-Baas, nonetheless fans will be looking forward to a game of high-intensity, running rugby.
