Emma Watson, outspoken actress best known for playing the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movie series, has been handed a six-month driving ban.

Watson, currently studying at Oxford University, had been caught exceeding the speed limit in the town in July last year. She had been travelling at 38 mph in a 30-mph zone. She already had a number of penalty points on her licence, and the offence pushed her into the temporary driving prohibition.

She was also fined a total of £1 044.

Her lawyer confirmed that she “is in a position to pay the fine.”

Coincidentally, another actress from the franchise, Zoë  Wanamaker – who acted as Madam Hooch – was also handed a fine for speeding  – on the same day, and in the same court.

She had committed her offence in August 2024 in Berkshire and was also given a £1 044 fine. She was handed the same driving ban as Watson.
