In an article to BusinessLIVE, Justice Malala referred to President Ramaphosa’s commitment to the ANC’s 9,406 councillor candidates that the ANC would “end corruption, fraud and patronage, no matter what form it takes and no matter who is involved”.

Ramaphosa continued: “We have demonstrated that we will not stand for wrongdoing, no matter who is involved. We will not protect any ANC leader, public representative or member who faces charges of corruption or other serious offences. The law must take its course and justice must be done in SA.”

One panel to interview mayoral candidates in KwaZulu-Natal will be Malusi Gigaba, who is intimately linked to the Gupta family at the centre of state capture, and connected to ‘nefarious activities’ at SAA, Home Affairs and Eskom.

In the Eastern Cape candidates are be interviewed by Mosebenzi Zwane, a Gupta associate, particularly with regard to the Vrede dairy farm scandal.  Zwane is said to have strong-armed Glencore into selling its mine to the Guptas.

In the Northern Cape, interviewers include Faith Muthambi, who did much damage to the SABC in support of Hlaudi Motsoeneng and nearly collapsed it. Parliament’s final report into the SABC said she had politically interfered in its workings and had “displayed incompetence”.

The report said “The president should seriously reconsider the desirability of this particular minister retaining the communications portfolio”.

Muthambi allegedly sent protected cabinet information to the Gupta family.

Ramaphosa said the ANC’s councillors “promise to serve with honesty, integrity and dedication and to do so with humility and selflessly”.

“They have undertaken to be responsive, inclusive and accountable. They have pledged to put the interests of the people of SA first,” he said.
