Eskom says that the power supply interruptions in Gauteng, as a result of multiple network faults, were exacerbated due to some technicians embarking on a go-slow. This extended the time needed to restore supply.

Eskom says that technicians who were not part of the go-slow have been attending to the network faults and are restoring supply.

The Eskom spokesperson in Gauteng, Daphne Mokwena, says, “We can confirm that Eskom management met with the trade unions and the labour matters were resolved with the agreement that technicians will resume with operations. We are working on restoring supply to the areas that are still affected, but due to the backlog, the turnaround time is longer than normal.”

Last week Eskom assured South Africans that there would be no load shedding during the weekend leading to election. This was following a week of load shedding across the country. It says it is focusing on protecting the integrity of the national grid by preparing for eventualities.
