The five African countries that will be representing the continent at the Football World Cup later this year have been confirmed.

As has been customary, the regions of West and North Africa are again supplying the global football showpiece with Africa’s representatives.

Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Tunisia, and Morocco will be the five countries that jet off to Qatar at the end of the year, after qualifying was completed on Tuesday night.

In the third and final round of African qualifying games, ten teams faced off against each other for a place at the World Cup.

Senegal beat Egypt, Cameroon bested Algeria, Morocco overcame the Democratic Republic of Congo, while Tunisia managed to get past Mali. Ghana ensured Nigeria could not qualify for the tournament which led to ugly scenes in Abuja, with Nigerian fans storming the pitch after the game, angry at their team’s failure to qualify.

Cameroon will be going to their eighth World Cup, the most by any African country. Morocco will be making their sixth appearance, as will Tunisia. This will be Ghana’s fourth jaunt to the soccer extravaganza, and Senegal’s third.

Cameroon, Senegal, and Ghana are also the continent’s three most successful teams at the tournament, each having reached the quarter final once.

Meanwhile South Africa’s football team, Bafana Bafana, were thrashed 5-0 by France in a friendly on Tuesday night.
