Eskom has spent about R4 billion this year to keep the lights on.

According to Business Live Eskom has spent R4.14 billion since the beginning of the year. R2 billion was budgeted for diesel for the first six months of the year.

In June the state electricity company spent R1.5 billion, against a budget of R700 million.

Jan Oberholzer, Eskom’s COO, said earlier this week that the company has been R2 million a day on diesel at the open-cycle gas turbines at Ankerlig and Gourikwa.
