The government has said that it will work to protect South African companies operating on the rest of the continent from extortion. It will also help them look for business on the continent.

This was according to Clayson Monyela, a spokesperson for the Department of International Relations and Co-operation.

According to Bloomberg, the government has met with business executives to discuss how to present a united front on the continent.

This comes after South African companies have been slapped with big tax bills, or have faced other problems in other African countries.

Bloomberg quoted Monyela as saying: ‘When certain governments are running out of funds, they target South African companies, or at least it appears that way. In some of the countries they operate in, someone will wake up and say you owe us money, and there is no rationale for that. In other instances, they are slapped with taxes they know nothing about. Literally it is extortion.’
