Of the nearly 180 environmental activists killed in 2022, some 60 were killed in Colombia.
This is according to a new report by Global Witness.
The organisation said that 60 environmental activists were killed in 2022: double the number killed the previous year.
Since Global Witness started keeping records in 2012, it says nearly 400 environmental activists have been killed in Colombia.
Latin America is a hotspot for the murder of environmentalists, according to Global Witness. In 2022 the number of activists killed in Brazil was 34, with 31 having been killed in Mexico, and 11 in Honduras.
Outside of Latin America the next worst country was the Philippines, with 11 activists being killed in that country in 2022.
