Kgosi Maepa is likely to be the next mayor of Tshwane, according to a report in BusinessLive.

Maepa has previously served as an advisor to two former ANC mayors of Tshwane, Gwen Ramokgopa and Kgosientsho Ramokgopa. He currently serves as an advisor to Gauteng premier, Panyaza Lesufi.

Maepa’s possible promotion to be the capital’s First Citizen comes after a motion-of-no-confidence last week, which saw the DA’s Cilliers Brink voted out by a coalition including the ANC, EFF, and ActionSA.

Maepa is not currently a councillor in the city which could be a problem for his candidacy.

The decision by the ANC to field one of its own as a candidate will likely be a disappointment to ActionSA. The DA’s former coalition partner in the city was reportedly hoping to see one of its councillors, Nasiphi Moya, elected mayor.

The DA said that it will field Brink as a candidate when the city votes for a new mayor.
