China has condemned a visit to Hawaii by the President of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te.
Lai visited the island state as part of a broader Pacific tour.
Beijing said it “strong condemns” Lai’s visit and that it had lodged a protest with the American government.
Lai was quoted as saying: “Peace is priceless, and war has no winners. We have to fight, fight together to prevent war.”
Lai’s visit comes amid increasing tensions between Taiwan and China.
Taiwan, which is de facto independent, is seen as being an integral part of China by Beijing.
