The South African Police Services (SAPS) now sits with a shocking backlog of 170 000+ samples of unprocessed evidence, due to a service provider contract in the Forensic Division not being paid. Police twiddle their thumbs as the system used to process forensic lab evidence and firearms has consequently been switched off. Victims of crime are paying the price, as the criminals may very-well escape justice.
