An estimated 123 million people tuned in to watch the Super Bowl over the weekend.

Only the 1969 Moon landing was watched by more people, with the viewership for that event being estimated at between 125 and 150 million people.

The Super Bowl is the final championship game of the National Football League. In Sunday’s game the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime.

It is believed that the ‘Taylor Swift’ effect may have played a role. Swift, one of the world’s biggest music stars is dating Travis Kelce, who plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and there was much speculation in the media whether she would make it back to the US to watch Kelce. She had been on tour in Japan.

Numerator, a market research firm, found that 20% of those watching the Super Bowl were supporting the Chiefs because of Kelce’s relationship with Swift.
