China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, demanded Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to retract her remarks related to Taiwan.
Prime Minister Takaichi made remarks in parliament, 7 November 2025, that Chinese attack on Taiwan could amount to a “survival-threatening situation,” triggering potential military response from Tokyo, Reuters reports.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Jian said at a press conference that Takaichi’s remarks was a “crude interference” in China’s internal affairs and a “heavy blow” to bilateral relations.
China claims governed Taiwan as its own and has not ruled out force to take control of Taiwan. Taiwan rejects these claims and says only its people can decide their future.
Jian said: “Should Japan dare to intervene military in the Taiwan Strait situation, it will constitute an act of aggression, and China will strike back decisively.”
Senior political figures in Tokyo have requested the expulsion of China’s Consul General in Osaka, Xue Jian, after he shared a news article regarding Takaichi’s remarks and commented: “The dirty head that sticks itself in must be cut off.”
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi called the comment: “regrettable.”
Minister Motegi said at a press conference on Wednesday, 12 November 2025: “[Japan will] continue to strongly urge the Chinese side to take appropriate action so that this does not affect the broad direction of Japan-China relations.”
